So many times people are under the impression that attending college classes online is just like attending college classes in the brick-and-mortar world. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Attending classes on a traditional college or university campus means that classes are scheduled on certain days and at a given time.
For example: Thursday at 10:00 AM is the time that a student might be required to attend his English 101 class.
The professor or assistant professor stands before the class and delivers a lecture. He talks fast, and taking notes that can be read later seems nearly impossible.
As he finishes up his hour-long lecture, he then makes an assignment of work to be completed outside class and gives a date when the assignments must be completed and turned in.
After his English 101 class, the college student then races across campus to attend another class with yet more assignments. Whew! It makes me tired just thinking about it.
Online college classes bear very little resemblance to real-world college classes. The only two things that are exactly the same are the material that is covered and the credit given for satisfactorily completing the course.
A college class online is usually conducted like this: The professor or instructor posts his lecture online. It can be read online or downloaded.
It can be gone over carefully by the student, one sentence at a time if necessary. The assignments are also posted online.
The time for completing assignments is usually left up to the student. He is allowed to progress at his own pace.
The student then completes his assignments and uploads them to the website for the professor or the instructor to review and to grade.
Taking college courses online is far easier than taking college courses at a college or university out in the brick-and-mortar world.
