(Business law) Obama Grants: Brought In To Encourage Moms to Earn a Degree

No doubt higher education is important, but there are often a number of obstacles that can hinder potential students from enrolling in college. Family obligations and financial concerns are often at the top of this list, especially when it relates to single mothers. In an attempt to ease some of the concerns associated with going to college, Obama grants are intended to encourage mothers to return to college to earn a degree.

The purpose of federal grants can be seen in many cases to help disadvantaged groups to attend college. The federal Pell grant is an endowment commonly given to low-income students. Since the Obama administration has stated that it places a high priority on education, the benefits of Pell grants have been augmented in order to be a greater help to potential students. Working moms especially are encouraged to apply for the Scholarships for Moms program, which is just a title given to a portion of the standard Pell grant program. The administration believes that equipping low-income mothers to earn a degree will provide a stimulus to the lagging economy and be a great benefit to families of those mothers by increasing their earning power in the work force.

Although $5,000 from a Pell grant may not seem like a lot of money, when you consider the high cost of education these days, it should help defray the other expenses associated with going to college. As well as books, supplies, and housing, a student has also travelling expenses to pay. For a single mom, other miscellaneous expenses may also include childcare. A great characteristic of the Pell grant award is that the money awarded does not necessarily have to be applied to college tuition. On condition that any expense that can be seen to be necessary to obtaining an education, can be covered by the grant money.

It must be remembered that this program doesnt cater specifically to traditional students; it provides opportunity for traditional and non-traditional students alike. Mothers who want to return to college to earn a degree are just as welcome as a student who is fresh out of high school. Consideration is given equally to potential students who would prefer to go to a small community college as well as mothers who would like to stay home and take care of their children while taking online courses. All willing students are able to earn a degree that will provide them with significant opportunity in the job market, and this is the most crucial factor.

Obama grants are an effort by the current administration to show that education truly is the key to a bright future. By allocating a significant amount of money to pay for education, everyone from working mothers to young adults has a chance to go to college.

Obama Is Bringing In Scholarships for Single Mothers

By Fred Jackson

Single working mothers have perhaps the toughest job of all, in having to take care of their families on their own. A goal or a wish for many moms that has to be put on hold because of family responsibilities, is higher education. President Obama, together with his new administration, is, however, encouraging moms to make their education a priority. Obama scholarships are giving working mothers a great chance to improve their futures.

While people of all ages are encouraged to seek higher education, Obama is urging working moms in particular with his Scholarships for Moms program. Building on The Scholarships for Moms program, is the federal government’s long-standing offer of Pell grants. Applied for through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, Pell grants are the most commonly applied for forms of aid for students going to college. To encourage more mothers to return to school, the Obama administration is making some changes now.

For the Scholarships for Moms program, the biggest incentive is in the amount of money that is being offered. The maximum amount awarded through Pell grants is about $4,000 per student, but that amount is increased to $5,000 for mothers who apply to the program. The goal of these grants is to allow working moms to return to school and earn a degree that allows them to better provide for their families now and in the future. By equipping mothers to earn more money as working professionals, the administration also hopes that this will also stimulate the economy. Moms can receive an education without worrying about the costs of school or having to pay back money for a loan.

An added incentive for moms considering this program is that it applies to enrollment in nearly any type of higher education institution. Four-year universities are covered as well as smaller community colleges. You can choose either a public school or a private one. An option for busy moms who can’t stay on campus is to study through online courses. Basically the government’s Scholarships for Moms program is a comprehensive attempt to get mothers who are keen back into the classroom.

The Obama scholarship really takes a lot of the worry out of returning to school. In almost any area of interest working moms can earn a degree, so that they are fully equipped to provide for their families. An unfulfilled wish or an unobtainable goal no longer has to be higher education. The Scholarships for Moms program is intended to create a brighter future for mothers and their children.
